This week the French department has been feeling poetic. In lessons, students have all had the opportunity to study a French poem. The year 8 and 9 students have explored Jean de la Fontaine’s Le Corbeau et le Renard while girls in year 10 and 11 have studied Le Pont Mirabeau by Guillaume Apollinaire.
This was in anticipation the Anglo French Society of Birmingham’s poetry competition which is held annually at the University of Birmingham. Students are invited to take part by reciting their poem that we have studied in class. The judges look for accurate pronunciation and intonation as well as original interpretations.
Madame Laurent, Madame Franco, Madame Marquette, Madame Merrall and Miss Dyke were extremely impressed by the girls who came along to audition for the competition today. The standard was tremendously high and the girls are all to be commended for their efforts.
We look forward to announcing the selection of students who will attend the competition itself at the University of Birmingham on Wednesday 14th November.
